Universitetet i Agder
University of Agder is situated on the coast of southern Norway in the region of Agder and is one of the younger universities in Norway. It has its roots since long ago in educational institutions for teachers, health personal and engineers. The teacher education has a strong tradition and is central for the university. As Kristiansand is on the boarder of Norway many immigrants enter in the city and there is a multicultural flavour. About 10 % of the pupils in schools and students in university are of other ethnic origin than Norwegian.
The academic staff in mathematics education consists of professors from many different countries, such as Germany, Brazil, Sweden, United Kingdom, France and Norway with a multicultural understanding of research and development. Since 2003 a number of larger research projects have been carried out, funded by Norwegian educational authorities like the Research Council and Nordic Research Academy. In these projects more than 40 schools have been involved. In a Nordic Graduate school run by UiA for six years 38 Nordic and Baltic universities participated and about 100 doctoral students and 150 supervisors of doctoral students.
