Charles University in Prague was founded in 1348 and is one of the world's oldest universities.
Charles University is one of the world's top universities. In the Shanghai University's Academic Ranking of World Universities Charles University was placed in the top 300 out of the total of 17,000 universities and colleges. Charles University is therefore among the 2% of the best universities and the 100 top European universities. The university fared just as successfully in The Times THES ranking, being paced 229th.
The Faculty of Education is one of seventeen faculties associated under the umbrella of the Charles University in Prague. Its primary goal is to train teachers and other pedagogical personnel for all types of schools and school systems, at various levels of study (Bachelors and Masters) and forms. While five other faculties within the Charles University are also officially qualified to train teachers, what makes the Faculty of Education unique is the span and complexity of its educational focus. The Faculty provides university-level pre- and in-service teacher education in the following fields: Humanities, Social Sciences, Art Education, Physical Education, Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
In the area of international co-operation, the Faculty of Education focuses on various types of projects in the Socrates programme (Comenius, Lingua, Grundtvig, Minerva, Arion, Erasmus).
The Faculty provides PhD studies in Czech and Czechoslovak history, Mathematics Education, Philosophy, Music Theory and Education, Pedagogical Psychology, Pedagogy, Special Pedagogy, Social pedagogy and Arts.
